Boats at wharf Crays Divers on boat

A legendary place for fishing, boating and diving!

Fishing, boating and diving have been legendary on Great Barrier for decades, often talked of in hushed tones, tales of spot X and the one that got away, of monsters landed and experiences cherished. In reality, from Orama you can access some of the best fishing and diving that the barrier has to offer.

Superb rock fishing can be experienced just a short walk from your accommodation or surf casting by just a short drive over the hill (see rental car options) to one of the glorious ocean beaches.

We can’t guarantee the fish or the weather of course but for the novice to the experienced angler/diver the experiences are there to be had, the fish to be hooked, the cray’s to be bagged, in an pristine marine environment that has to be among New Zealand’s best.

Excellent wharf – bring your boat!

Orama Oasis has an excellent wharf and floating dock which caters for all sized vessels. With a minimum depth of 1.2 meters at low water this provides access for all sized craft including large charter boats. Many visitors travel to Orama by private boat and use Orama as a base for fishing, diving or marine activities and the wharf provides hassle free access. Although you cannot leave your boat moored on the wharf Orama in Karaka Bay is a safe anchorage in most conditions. Situated just two minutes walk from the Main Building and accommodation the wharf offers great access for holiday-makers / fishermen and it’s a great spot for Dad to take the little ones fishing.
